International Women’s Day Warruwi 2018

On the 8th of March Veronica was fortunate to celebrate International Women’s Day with the women of Warruwi community.

Working together with Yagbani Aboriginal Corporation, West Arnhem Shire and NT Legal Aid Commission we organised this very special breakfast.This was a real team effort with Yagbani CDP coordinator Dee making a poster, NT Legal Aid and HK Training and Consultancy cooking all the bacon and eggs and West Arnhem contributing with a fruit platter.

Veronica spoke with Traditional owner Jenny Inmulugulu who stated that “this is the first time we celebrated International Women’s Day in our community” “Women are special” it was a good opportunity to share stories with all the women.

This is a wonderful example of everyone working together to deliver great outcomes and to acknowledge special days such as International Women’s Day in such a remote setting.

The following day women were talking about how other women across the country and the world celebrated International Women’s Day, this is wonderful, perhaps next year the celebrations will be bigger and better.
