Wadeye Community Proud of Florine
At a recent graduation ceremony for Florine Lantjin members of the Wadeye community celebrated her achievements. Florine is pictured above with her proud family and with Glenda Teede the Chief Executive Officer of West Daly Regional Council. At the graduation local elders spoke of their pride in what Florine has achieved and how wonderful the support given from Sharon from HK has been. It was a wonderful ceremony with so many happy and proud people.
Florine has worked in Aged Care at Wadeye for 15 years and has been a dedicated and valuable staff member; however she had not had the opportunity to obtain her qualifications until recent years. Under funding from the Commonwealth Government through the Northern Territory Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Aged Care Training Project training for six weeks per year by HK Training & Consultancy has occurred since 2011. Florine has shown commitment and worked hard for 5 years to complete not one but two Certificate III qualifications, she is the first local Indigenous person at Wadeye to achieve this. She is such a role model for her fellow workers, her family and the whole community.
Florineās skills and knowledge have been recognised by her employer, West Daly Regional Council, and has helped her to be promoted to Team Leader and to lead a team that provides quality care and support to the old people of Wadeye.
