HK Supports National Australia Bank Visit to Gunbalanya

HK accompanied two managers from the National Australia Bank (NAB) out to Gunbalanya from from 19th August to 21st August 2019.

NAB has created a new dedicated customer service line, to better support access for Indigenous Australians, particularly those who live in remote parts of Australia. To access this support line, customers may call the Indigenous Customer Service Line directly on 1800 966 100.

NAB staff wanted to get first-hand experience of the challenges that remote Aboriginal people have with accessing financial services. This trip highlighted the challenges that remote community members have with getting to a branch. Geographical locations and weather (and crocodiles) make it very difficult and at times impossible or very costly for people to get to their nearest branch and therefore need a better phone system to help them with their banking needs.

This trip helped the NAB staff gain a better understanding of what is needed to support Indigenous customers and to ensure the Indigenous customer helpline will cater to the needs appropriately.
